Flower Trade Enquiry
This is a sequence of enquiry designed to take around 4 lessons. It explores some of the issues covered by the excellent GA KS3 Teacher's Toolkit - A Thorny Issue, by Louise Ellis.
Lesson 1 - What are the main features of the global flower trade?
Lesson 1 introduces the main enquiry question and the 3 smaller questions students will work towards answering.

Lesson 2 - What are the social costs of the Kenyan flower industry?
Lesson 2 is an analysis of various sources of evidence. Students build the components that they need in order to produce a balanced argument. There are several Google Earth placemarks that can be downloaded and used to enhance the lesson. The BALANCED ARGUMENT writing frame is also useful for this lesson.

Lesson 3 - Environmental Impacts of the Flower Trade
Lesson 3 focuses on the environmental impacts of the flower industry and other pressures around Lake Naivasha. Students explore these issues through developing an oral persuasive argument. I film these presentations with a flip camera so they can be watched again, forming the basis of peer and self assessment. YouTube links relevant to the lesson have been embedded within the presentation.

Lesson 4 - Bringing the enquiry together
In this lesson students will produce an extended piece of writing based on the issues they have been exploring in the enquiry sequence. I have also included a writing frame for those who are less confident with their literacy skills.
